The thing I like about writing short stories is the range of topics, genres and characters you can have a play around with. Here are a few of the results.
Asylum – sci-fi in colonial times in about 2,000 words
The Messenger – 800 words of apocalyptic vision in response to a sculpture
The Upside of Funerals – there’s always a bright side (700 words)
The Library – playing with horror in only 260 words.
‘A Home Visit’– tells of a tough day at work that only gets worse…much worse! It appears in the Hunter Writers Centre‘s anthology of award winners from the 2019 Newcastle Short Story Competition.
